7. The location of Killybegs
Soil: The land in and around Killybegs has a mixture of gley and peaty soils. These soils are not fertile enough for productive farming.
Relief: The Crownarad Mountain to the west of Killybegs is over 490 m high. To the north and east of the town the land is less mountainous but still has hills between 100 m and 135 m high. It is difficult to use farm machinery on hilly land. Landslides can also occur during bad weather, removing soil needed for farming.
Location: Killybegs Harbour is located in a deep inlet, making it one of the safest, most sheltered, deep-water harbours on the Irish coast.
