Write the acronyms and abbreviations from the unit on cards, or use those provided in the PDF. Divide the class into two teams. A student selects a card and reads it correctly. (Speed is of the essence.) Alternatively, one team picks a card with an acronym or abbreviation; the other team gives the actual words.
Teach students how to play a version of noughts and crosses: create a 3 × 3 grid with one abbreviation/ acronym from the unit in each box. In pairs, students take it in turns to select a box and say the abbreviation/ acronym and what it stands for. If they succeed, they can put their symbol – a nought (0) or a cross (×) – in that box. T e winner is the fi rst person to get three of their own symbols in a line.
Ask students to work in small groups to research online and feed back to the group on the history of some of the developments mentioned in the text in Lesson 4.2. T ey could formulate research questions as in Lesson 2.2.
