Feed back as a large group by reading each topic sentence and eliciting comments from the students. Remind students of any key information they may have forgotten.
LANGUAGE NOTE Paragraph structure There is no universal logic to the structuring of information in a text. The order of information is often language-specifi c. For example, some languages tend to have a topic sentence or paragraph summary at the end, not the beginning, of the paragraph. This is possible in English, too, but happens rather less frequently. So it is important for students to see what a fl uent writer of academic English would consider to be a ‘logical’ ordering – even if, ultimately, this represents a rule which can be legitimately broken.
