1. Create and keep at least four pieces of work in four diff erent genres. You cannot have two pieces from the same genre. Put these in your Collection of Texts folder for safe keeping.
2. Include a fi rst draft and a fi nal draft for each of your four pieces. These drafts will be useful when it comes to writing your Refl ection Note later on.
3. Pick your two best pieces. 4. Complete a fi nal offi cial Refl ection Note for each piece.
5. Now you’re ready to hand up your fi nal two best pieces along with their drafts and Refl ection Notes.
Checklist
Before you hand in your texts and Refl ection Notes, use the following checklist. ✔Re-read your work one last time before you fi ll in the offi cial Refl ection Note.
✔ Ask yourself good questions about the pieces you have written. Write brief, thoughtful answers to your questions. This preparation is to make sure you’ve done your best work before you hand it in. Questions 1–4 below are sample questions for four specifi c genres (story, review, argument/debate points, interview), and some sample answers are given to help you get started, but change the questions to suit your genres. Questions 5–8 are general questions you can ask about your genres.
1. Will someone reading my story say that I delivered an interesting piece of work that they wanted to read?
My aim was to write a promising title, give my readers a good story and to tell it as well as I could. I wanted my opening sentence to make a reader curious and interested enough to read more. I aimed to write a short last paragraph that sounded like an ending and made the reader think.
