Good evening Principal Fitzgerald, fellow classmates, ladies and gentlemen. Today I am speaking to you about the challenges the public health system faces and what we can do to improve our chances of staying fi t and healthy.
First, I want to talk to you about a young girl. This young girl loved sitting with her mother getting her hair done. She had beautiful big hair that could be styled up, down, any way she desired. Every day, she would go to school with a diff erent style and she would be the envy of all of her classmates. However, disaster struck when her mum was diagnosed with cancer. This little girl’s world came crashing down around her. She was even stuck with her dad doing her hair! However, the hospital took good care of her mother and she fi nally returned to her family.
That girl was me. I will never be able to express how grateful I am to the dedicated nurses and doctors who took care of my mum. She mattered to them. They mattered to us. Our health system matters to everyone.
