❍ Where it says ‘Studied text’, be sure to write about the play, novel or fi lm your teacher did with you for special study.
TIPS FOR ANSWERING QUESTIONS
1. When you begin a section, make sure to give a quick glance over the allocation of marks for each question. You will obviously need to write more for a 40-mark question than you would a 10-mark question.
2. ‘Brevity is the soul of wit’ – this quote is from Hamlet and it means that you need to be brief and to the point when it is called for. Therefore, don’t get stuck writing pages for a
question that is only worth 5 marks. 3. PIE will help you answer the question. It will also help you be succinct (clear and brief).
4. Timing is so important. The instructions on the exam give you a time per section but it doesn’t tell you how much time to spend on each question. Don’t get caught up with one question and then leave all the rest unanswered.
5. Don’t forget about useful skills that you have learned (see below) and make sure you apply these to your answers.
