Lighting and special eff ects are very important fi lm techniques. Directors and cinematographers instruct lighting designers and technicians to create particular lighting for each scene to help the audience understand the story and the mood being created.
When studying lighting in your fi lm, ask yourself:
■ Is the light natural or artifi cial? ■ Is it bright or dark? ■ Are shadows created?
■ Is a character highlighted by the lighting, for example using a spotlight?
■ What type of atmosphere does the lighting create?
