The moon had started to rise over the brightly lit fun fair. Clamouring into the booth, Mary and her friend Tanya took the icy bar that hung over their heads and pulled it down with an urgent jolt. They had been queuing for almost twenty minutes and their hair stood on end with nervous apprehension. The weather didn’t help. It was an unusually crisp night and darkness was falling fast. Mary braced herself for the quick spin of the booth, but as it spun her eyes moved to the compartment opposite her.
