Fire and Ice 2 is a textbook for 2nd and 3rd Year designed to meet the requirements of the Junior Cycle English specifi cation. It engages with the 39 Learning Outcomes through imaginative Oral Language, Reading and Writing activities, which cater for learner diversity and fi re a passion for English.
This second edition of Fire and Ice places particular emphasis on genre and on the development of language skills, notably in the accompanying Writing Skills Book. In Writing Skills Book 2, exam technique is honed so that students learn to respond to questions in a concise, eff ective manner.
Fire and Ice 2 provides a dual approach with both thematic and genre collections. Thematic collections 1–5 have a specifi c genre focus. Rich collections of texts create an enjoyable reading experience and teach writing in diff erent genres.
Genre collections 6–10 are designed to accompany work on the studied texts. These collections provide a wealth of texts for close study. They also teach the essential terms and critical vocabulary that are highly rewarded in examination answers.
Fire and Ice 2 recognises the importance of supporting success in the fi nal assessments. The recurring Exam Focus feature provides annotated sample answers, mapped to specifi c Learning Outcomes, to guide both Higher and Ordinary Level students.
