The climax of a story is the most dramatic and exciting point in the whole story. It’s the part where there is no going back for the protagonist. If you imagine a rollercoaster ride, it is the highest peak before the drop that will bring you to the end of the ride.
You will read two short stories that have very eff ective climaxes: ‘The Hero of Drumree’ and ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’.
Short Story 5: ‘The Hero of DrumreE’
Derek Landy is best known for his Skulduggery Pleasant series. In ‘The Hero of Drumree’, he creates a witty and unique character in Fleece, whose adventures bring him to a rather startling climax. Fleece’s experiences are developed around the themes of courage, loyalty and war.
