In response to Emma Watson’s speech, write two paragraphs of a speech you would give about gender equality. You can refer to her speech or use some of her statistics/rhetorical questions/ quotes/anecdotes in your own speech.
Performing a Speech
You might have noticed that Emma was able to look up at her audience. This is not an easy part of public speaking but it is important because:
1. It connects with the
audience
2. It allows for better
projection of the speaker’s voice
3. It shows respect for
the audience
4. It shows the confi dence of the
speaker, which makes their points more impactful
The best speeches are the ones that are prepared and practised well. If you want your speech to have impact, you must practise it and have full confi dence in what you are saying.
In small groups of three to fi ve students, speak your gender equality speeches to each other. Stand up in front of your group to deliver your speech and make sure you have practised the speech so well that you are able to look up at your group while you are delivering it.
