LIFESTYLE COSMETICS Anhydrous products such as moisturizing

bars or beauty sticks are gaining an increased level of popularity. Not only is the hectorite skin glow gel widely compatible with these systems, it provides distinctive benefits to solid formulas by adding elasticity. When shear is applied, the organically modified hectorite platelets align flat on the skin, giving a beautiful application. Generally, it will make a stick softer, so that a

better pay-off on application can be achieved. At the same time, it will give a stick more flexibility, so that it is less prone to breakage (Figure 9). The internal network formed by the gel can help the oil droplets, pigments and other particles to be evenly suspended and stabilized in the system in a much finer texture. The extraordinary suspension performance

leads to a much more uniform and stable stick and ensures replication of the formula performance from batch to batch. The incorporation of the hectorite skin glow gel into the stick system will help improve the suspension performance at large. Sun care formulations using organically modified hectorite form extremely stable W/O emulsions with the ability to create a variety of textures. Formulations apply easily without leaving a greasy film on the skin while enabling very uniform coverage of the skin. Tests showed that the addition of organically modified hectorite to a formula can increase the SPF and wash off resistance (Figure 10). The clay network on the one hand supports a proper distribution of particles and actives, resulting in a uniform film on skin. On the other hand, the thixotropic behavior allows the formation of a thicker layer after application, giving better protection.

Conclusion The hectorite skin glow gel like all other organically modified hectorite-based products, is
