Silab launches Senevisium anti-senescence active ingredient

Silab has taken the wraps off Senevisium, a natural anti-ageing ingredient made from Ginkgo biloba.

The French cosmetic actives

producer says the ingredient is capable of reactivating the natural elimination of senescent fibroblasts by the immune system. Senevisium acts transversally on the dermis and the epidermis for an anti-wrinkle action and a rapid radiance-boosting effect, it adds. Senescence, a central factor of

ageing, is controlled by the immune system that effectively locates and eradicates senescent cells that are harmful to the cutaneous environment. Over time, however, some

senescent fibroblasts implement immunoevasion strategies to avoid being eliminated. Thanks to novel in vitro and

in vivo modelling studies, Silab revealed the accentuation of the immunoevasion mechanism at

extraordinary capacity of Ginkgo biloba to withstand the test of time and by the powerful immune system of this supercentenarian tree with a unique anti-aging biological heritage. Its leaves were then beneficially

used to restore the capacity of the immune system of mature skin to eliminate senescent cells. Two French farms (Champagne

Senevisium is able to restore the natural elimination of immunoevasive senescent fibroblasts by the immune system by circumventing their two immoevasion pathways. By allowing deleterious

immunoevasive senescent fibroblasts to be recognized again and eliminated, Senevisium

protects the skin from their harmful effects on matrix synthesis and epidermal renewal. Tested at 2% in Caucasian

volunteers, Senevisium enables the skin to restore its density and elasticity. The stage of wrinkles is reduced and complexion radiance is enhanced. The volunteers themselves

confirm these results since 100% of them find their skin firmer, and their complexion lighter and more uniform after 28 days of treatment. Silab was inspired by the

Lubrizol reveals Actizyme test results

Lubrizol Life Science Beauty has revealed the results of in vivo efficacy testing of its Actizyme advanced botanical ingredient. Actizyme is a botanical extract rich in an acid protease that mimics the effect of endogenous cathepsin D to produce a controlled and effective desquamation, without side effects. In desquamation, the skin cells

go through a complete life cycle – from the base layer of the epidermis

to the skin cells maturing and eventually flaking off at the surface. When this process does not happen fully, dead skin cells can remain on the skin, making the skin look rough and dull. In vivo efficacy testing of

Actizyme was conducted on volunteers with darker complexions. Participants reported visible lightening effects and that their skin appeared more luminous. It was demonstrated that when

used in skin care formulations, Actizyme mimics the skin’s own desquamating enzymes. “Previous studies have shown

that Actizyme advanced botanical ingredient is a mild exfoliating ingredient that confers gentle cell turnover, compared to AHAs,” said Lubizol spokeswoman. “For the first time, we have

identified, in vitro, that the activity of the ingredient is highly specific to the conditions of the surface

active ingredient recommended in all care products for mature skin at the amount of 0.5 to 2.0%. Available in aqueous solution,

it is easy to formulate. It complies with biodiversity regulations and has a natural origin content of 98.8% (ISO 16128). It meets international cosmetic regulations requirements (Europe, United States, China, Japan, etc.).

Sophim launches PhytOlive Fine exfoliant powder

Sophim has expanded its natural portfolio with PhytOlive Fine, an exfoliant upcycled from olive stones.

The French company says the

olive-sourced exfoliant offers a bio-based alternative to plastic beads scrub, and an upcycled alternative to sugar and salt scrubs. PhytOlive Fine (Olea europaea seed) is an exfoliant possessing

many benefits for the skin: cleansing, purifying, soothing, brightening, and softening. It also stimulates cell renewal

by mechanically eliminating dead skin and impurities. The ingredient comes in

the form of a powder obtained by grinding and sieving olive stones, which contain an oil rich in tocopherol (Vitamin E), oleic

and linoleic acids, known for their antioxidant and nourishing properties. Sophim says PhytOlive Fine

does not interact with the other ingredients within the formula, thus offering efficiency and stability to formulators. “Its uniqueness is due to its

sourcing and sensory properties, at the core of Sophim’s values.

PhytOlive Fine is made in France. It is COSMOS approved, and upcycled from olive stones,” added managing director Alexis Margnat. “This smooth exfoliant offers

a grain size of 500 microns, fitting various needs and offering multiple opportunities to formulators. Its integrity is guaranteed thanks to a heat treatment process allowing PhytOlive Fine to be sterilized.”
