INDUSTRY NEWS Delivering More With Less
Registrar of REPs New Zealand Stephen Gascal writes about how big isn’t always better.
With 2000 Registered Exercise Professionals, REPs NZ is one of the smaller registers in the world, and doesn’t benefit from the same economies of scale as the larger registers. Our challenge is therefore to deliver more to our exercise professionals with less; a challenge which we have fully embraced.
We know exercise professionals have a desire for registers to be active in promoting themselves so we have developed resources and tools to help our members deliver a professional product, while at the same time directly promoting the benefits of REPs to clients and the public. These include practical and useful goal setting, planning and referral
cards, customer friendly PT and client contracts, and industry approved pre-screening forms. Our popular Tell Me More series of consumer brochures cover a range of topics including weight loss, nutrition, weight training, sleep and group exercise.
Our new Guide to Starting Out as an Exercise Professional provides essential information to understand the industry including employment options, pay rates, sales, marketing and tax matters for those operating their own PT business.
Bigger picture strategic items this year include the government review of all fitness qualifications and a new Exercise Specialist degree based registration level. By 2014, we hope to have industry approved qualifications to ensure graduates meet the needs of industry.
