SkillsActive News Endorsement for CPD
Tom Bell, Endorsement Manager at SkillsActive, looks at why
endorsement of training for CPD (continual
professional development) is crucial to maintaining standards
CPD is essential in ensuring fitness professionals maintain current knowledge and are able to build their portfolios, increase their skills, knowledge and earning potential. The value for undertaking endorsed training is the peace of mind that all training has gone through a robust quality assurance process where technical experts evaluate not only the technical content against set criteria but ensure that it is safe, effective and fit for purpose.
As part of the quality assurance process it is
a requirement that those delivering the training also meet industry standards and offer a good experience for everyone.
Undertaking training that carries the REPs endorsed logo will support you in maintaining your status on REPs as well as indicating to employers and the general public your commitment to keeping up to date with an ever-changing dynamic industry.

Chief executive of the Fitness Industry Association, David Stalker, has defended the industry after an article in The Guardian newspaper called gyms a “genius con”.
The feature by Zoe Williams stated: “whether we’re using the gym or not, as a cohort, it’s not making us any thinner”.
Stalker writes: “Williams falls into the common trap of believing that the only reason to lead an active lifestyle is to lose weight and look good. This myth must be debunked. Not
only does calorie burning occur during exercise but the impact continues long afterwards, multiplying the calories burned by up to four times in the hours after you have stopped moving.
“There are numerous lifestyle- related conditions that can be prevented or managed by being active. Looking at physical activity solely through an obesity-tinted lens ignores its physical, mental, social and emotional benefits.”
