Since I last spoke to you, I have been involved with some of the less pleasant aspects of my job, which is to investigate allegations of misconduct and malpractice by REPs members. In some cases these allegations are unfounded, however in others the claims made are unfortunately true and we are then forced to take disciplinary action, up to and including the ultimate sanction of removing people from REPs.
In all of the cases I have dealt with recently where removal from the Register has been required, there has been a recurring theme of members breaching the Code of Ethical Conduct. I am aware that a lot of our new members may not know of this when they join, so I have made sure there is a clear link to it on this page. Please note that when you sign up to REPs, you also sign up to this code and we will refer to it if we receive a complaint.
The other common point in the recent disciplinary cases is a lack of adequate record keeping by the people involved. I will write in more detail about this in the next Journal, but at this stage I would like to point out that it is your responsibility to keep written records of all of your dealings with a client, including PAR-Qs, client/ trainer agreements, cancellation policies and workout details. This information provides evidence for you to use to defend yourself if a complaint is made against you. To view the REPs Ethical Code of Conduct visit http://bit.ly/IC63Wy
Anyway, enough of the negative stuff, I hope you enjoyed the festive season and see you in 2014.
