REPS NEWS As part of its 10th
Anniversary celebrations, the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) started 2012 with a public awareness campaign which has already reached more than 13 million people.
The campaign aims to position REPs registration as a kite-mark of safe and effective exercise practice, and to challenge instructors who are not registered to sign up to REPs. REPs’ Registrar Jean-Ann explains: “We’d like to make checking your instructor is REPs registered as automatic as checking your heating engineer is Gas-Safe compliant. Our members are highly qualified, motivated professionals and we need the general public to recognise them as such. “
“As part of this campaign REPs in the news
we’ve featured on Radio 4’s You and Yours programme, The Sun, 19 regional radio stations, Heart FM, the London Evening Standard, www.fitnessrocks. co.uk, www.femalefirst.co.uk, PR Week, www.thepeople. co.uk, www.malextra.co.uk, and are working with other major consumer magazines to position REPs’ members as exercise experts.”
The REPs team, helped by 40 Personal Trainers who volunteered their time, also took a stand at the Vitality Show at London’s Earl’s Court. More than 35,000 health and beauty enthusiasts visited the three-day show with hundreds visiting the REPs’ stand to enjoy a free health MOT.
Jean-Ann added: “People
invest a lot of time and money in engaging the services of a fitness professional and we want that investment to pay off. We want people to understand what REPs is, why it exists and how it can work for them. We want them to use the facility on our website that allows them
to verify their instructors’ registration status as well as searching for REPs trainers in their area.”
