After being asked to review existing cover by the Register, JLT came up with a new policy which matches the existing rates for public liability, professional indemnity and personal accident insurance to members but with much improved additional benefits, including: l Personal accident cover – will now be included in all policies – free of charge. l The current claims made basis has been changed to one of claims occurrence. This means that cover will remain in place against all incidents, which occur during the period of insurance irrespective of the date when the claim is notified to the insured (subject to statutory notification periods). Importantly, this basis will therefore not leave any member exposed to claims made after their policy expiries or after the point when they have ceased working as an exercise professional. l Secondly, to complement the claims occurrence basis of cover the insurers have agreed to provide retrospective cover to a date three years prior to the inception of their new policy. In doing so this will enable members to transfer without the unnecessary risk that would otherwise exist when allowing a claims-made policy to lapse. Please note any incidents noted in your accident book that occurred prior to the expiry of your existing policy should be reported to them before your renewal date. l The legal advice service will continue. l Professional indemnity cover will extend to include advice given for a fee in respect of activities such as healthy

REPs has appointed specialist insurance brokers Jardine Lloyd Thompson Leisure to handle insurance policies available to members.

eating and corporate fitness consultancy. l An increased turnover limit from £25,000 to £50,000 per individual within the current rate structure. Cover can be arranged for individuals generating a turnover in excess of £50,000 but an additional premium will be required and would be dealt with on a case specific basis.

Registrar Jean-Ann Marnoch said: “We asked JLT to review our cover and come up with new options after seeing the work they had done with other trade organisations and the

policies they had written for clients who, like our members, work closely with members of the public both as employees and freelance staff.”

All REPs policies will be handled by the same office in Gloucestershire providing a direct and consistent point of contact for our members.”
