To leave a lee shore push off, climb aboard and steer onto a close reach until you reach water deep enough to lower the centreboard and rudder fully, sailing close-hauled to get away from the shore.
To return to a lee shore turn head to wind just offshore, lower the mainsail and sail in using the jib alone. In a single-handed dinghy, sail in and, if the bottom is gently shelving, turn head to wind near the shore and step out.
