Gybing a Multihull
Multihulls are usually easier to gybe due to their stability; however, its extra speed means that you need plenty of clear sailing area. To manoeuvre, the boat should be under full control before you start the gybe.
The Helm
The checks and communication with the crew are the same as in a two-person dinghy.
If your multihull has centreboards or daggerboards they should be fully raised. 1.
Start the gybe by pulling the tiller extension to turn the rudders. 1.
2. Move to the middle of the boat as it turns onto a run and kneel, facing aft. Keep the rudders over to continue the turn and rotate the tiller extension aft. Swing the tiller extension behind the mainsheet to the other side and change hands on the mainsheet and extension.
⼿。
3. With your new mainsheet hand, grasp the mainsheet falls. As the sail swings across, briefly check the mainsheet’s movement to leeward. This will cause the sail’s full-length battens to ‘pop’ across on the new tack. Straighten the rudders.
4. Sit down on the windward hull and steer onto your new course.
