BEIJING TO HONG KONG 16 DAYS – ADVENTURES IN THE ORIENT
Travelling across China by train, this fast-paced journey takes us from the imperial palaces of Beijing to the skyscrapers of Hong Kong. Trip highlights include Xian’s Terracotta Army, giant pandas in Chengdu and the rural town of Yangshou. We also walk through the vast ‘Dragon’s Backbone’ rice terraces, stay in traditional village houses and meet the local Zhuang tribe.
ITINERARY
Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Beijing. Days 3/4 Beijing Walk along the incredible Great Wall at Jinshaling. Spend time exploring the imperial palaces of the Forbidden City and the vast Tiananmen Square. Take a sleeper train to Xian. Days 5/6 Xian Visit the Terracotta Army: life-size models of soldiers, horses and chariots. Days 7/8 Chengdu Fly to the capital of the Sichuan Province and meet giant pandas in the Panda Research Centre. Take a sleeper train to Sanjiang. Days 9/10 Village Walks Spend two days walking between the remote villages of Ma An Zhai and Pingan in the Longji hills: roam through the vast ‘Dragon’s Backbone’ terraced rice paddies, meet the local Zhuang tribe and stay in traditional village houses. Days 11/12 Yangshou Free time to explore the Yangshou region – a landscape of eroded limestone peaks on the Li River. There is the option to hire bikes, ride on a bamboo raft down the river or enjoy a lesson in Chinese cooking. Take a sleeper train to Hong Kong. Days 14/15 Hong Kong Free time to explore the city, take the tram to Victoria Peak or wander through the night markets. Day 16 Fly to the UK.
