Marrakech and its mad medina


MIDDLE ATLAS TREK AND MARRAKECH 15 DAYS – IMPERIAL CITIES AND ACTIVE ADVENTURES


This activity holiday takes us into Morocco’s Atlas Mountains to experience the nomadic lifestyle of the local Berber people. We search for Barbary apes, discover dinosaur footprints and camp under the stars in vast, unspoilt landscapes. We also visit the ancient cities of Fes and Marrakech and even try our hand at some traditional berber games and sports


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Fes. Days 2/3 Fes Exploring the world’s most complete Islamic medieval city. Visit the nearby lakes and cedar forests, home to Barbary apes. Days 4/6 Middle Atlas Trek Drive into the mountains to the village of Afourar. Start the 3-day mule-supported trek, exploring remote rural landscapes, camping under the stars and meeting semi-nomadic local families. Days 7/8 Happy Valley Walk to Bougmez, known as the ‘Happy Valley’ for its friendly locals, where there is time to visit the


souk and see dinosaur footprints left in the rock. Days 9/10 High Atlas Continue south through the High Atlas, passing waterfalls and rock pools. Descend to Marrakech, one of Morocco’s most famous cities. Days 11/12 Marrakech Spend two days exploring the medina and souks. Experience the open-air circus in the renowned Djemma El Fna Square with its snake-charmers, musicians and story- tellers. Days 13/14 Berber sports Practise some traditional berber pastimes including bowling and shot put. Day 15 Fly to the UK.
