ADVENTURES IN BURMA 16 DAYS – HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GOLDEN LAND


Half hidden from the world for decades and only recently re-opened to visitors, Burma is an exciting and adventurous destination. Admire gold-encrusted pagodas in Rangoon, witness the amazing ‘leg-rowers’ at Inle Lake, visit a giant’s pagoda and bell in Mandalay and the temple-studded plain of Bagan. We also explore the Shan highlands, discovering old British hill stations and meeting the local tribal people.


ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Rangoon. Day 3 Maymyo hill station We fly to Mandalay and drive to a former British hill station. Days 4/6 Mandalay Time to enjoy the cultural capital of Burma, exploring the surrounding ancient royal capitals, travelling by boat, bus, horse and cart. Days 7/9 Bagan A flight or cruise on the Irrawaddy River (depending on the season) takes us to the magical temples of Bagan. We meet the local people living among the remarkable temples. Days 10/11 Inle Lake We fly to Inle Lake then take to the water by longtail boat to discover the floating gardens, leg-rowers, stilt villages, local paper makers and silk weavers. Day 12 Pindaya Thousands of images of Buddha adorn a cave. Day 13 Kalaw Hilltribe trek An easy walk into the Shan highlands to see the colourful hilltribe villages. Day 14 Rangoon Time in the colonial capital to see the gold-encrusted Shwedagon Pagoda. Days 15/16 Overnight flight to UK.
