The European Union’s trading bloc was established in March 1957 with six countries. Ireland joined the club in 1973. It now has 27 countries. On 31 January 2020 the United Kingdom left the European Union. This decision was known as Brexit.
A trading bloc is a group of countries who agree to form a trade area for a common market and remove trade barriers in doing so.
