Employment Employment is work undertaken where a payment is received, e.g. teaching.
There are two main groups of people involved in employment: 1. The employer: an organisation or individual that employs others. 2. The employee: the name given to the individual who is working.
Impact of employment Positive impacts/rewards
• Employment allows an individual to earn an income, e.g. wage, salary, commission.
• Individuals experience satisfaction which may lead to personal development. It can also result in a promotion if you work hard.
• Employment may come with perks, e.g. company cars, health insurance, etc.
• There is a legal contract protecting both employee and employer.
• The organisation gets the use of qualified experts who can get the job done quickly and to a high standard.
• With more people employed, fewer are dependent on government aid, e.g. Jobseeker’s Allowance. They also pay taxes which is income for the government.
