2. The Consumer Protection Act 2007
The Consumer Protection Act 2007 is designed to protect the consumer from false or misleading claims about products or services.
Information:
• Information about products or services should not be false or mislead the consumer in any way. Information should be accurate and comply to labelling laws (sell by date/nutritional information, etc.).
For example, products which are labelled as ‘gluten free’ or ‘organic’ should be as labelled.
• Information about prices should not be false or mislead the consumer. Prices must also be stated clearly and inclusive of any extras, e.g. VAT.
For example, the reduced price of the product must have been at the previous price for at least 28 consecutive (continuous) days in the last three months.
