I can identify developments in human rights in the 20th century.
The United Nations was established in 1945 to prevent any future wars and to promote peace in the world. The UN Human Rights Commission chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which was adopted by the United Nations in 1948. This was the fi rst international document to apply human rights to all people regardless of race, gender, religion or any other diff erence. In 1950, the European Convention on Human Rights was signed and in 1989 the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was passed.
