Working in pairs, read about Oskar and decide fi ve changes he needs to make to reduce his carbon footprint.
Oskar is 13 and lives 2 km from his school in Cork. His mother drops him off every morning, even though she works from home. Today, he wants to get in early to fi nish the homework he didn’t do last night. His mother drops him off at the shop near the school where Oskar buys his lunch, a 1 litre bottle of water, a banana and a beef sandwich.
He arrives at school 40 minutes before class and starts his homework. He realises that he left his Maths copy at home, so he gets an empty hardback copy from his locker. After school, he is going to a soccer match against another school in town with some friends. They are going to cycle so he calls a taxi to get to the match. When he gets there, he has a burger from the take-away van. There are no bins, so he throws the wrappings on the ground. He’s looking forward to a concert in Dublin next week. He will fl y there with his family.
