Exercise 89D Distinguishing between effective and ineffective online discussion
Key Skills Success criteria
I can identify eff ective and ineff ective online discussions and explain why they are eff ective or ineff ective.
Online discussion is eff ective when it is helpful and something useful happens. On the other hand, ineff ective discussion is where nothing of any use happens. It may even involve harmful discussion. People can contribute to online discussions by adding information that was missing, correcting something that was said, answering a question or expressing an opinion.
Eff ective discussion happens when: ● A moderator on the site checks that people are posting true information ● People read the original post carefully before posting a comment ● The language is respectful and easily understood ● People use evidence and personal experiences.
