Exercise 37C Distinguishing between renewable and non-renewable energies Key Skills Success criteria
I can tell which are renewable energies and which are non-renewable.
The main greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide (CO2), which is released when fossil fuels like oil or gas are burned. Methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), which are released by agriculture, fossil fuels and even human sewage, are more dangerous than CO2.
Renewable energy is sustainable because it can be replaced. The main types of renewable energy include: ● Solar energy – solar panels convert sunlight into electricity ● Wind energy – wind turbines convert wind into electricity ● Hydro energy – energy is created from the force of water ● Geothermal energy – pumps use the heat of the ground to heat water ● Tidal energy – converts the energy from tides into electricity
Look at the pictures below and indicate whether they are renewable or non-renewable energy sources.
