Situation 5: Your local council brought in planners to design a new park in your area.
Action taken: Everyone in the community was invited to a meeting to discuss what should be included. They especially wanted to know what children of all ages wanted and set up working groups of young people to work with the planners. When the plans were drawn up, all the young people in the area were given a copy of what the council proposed to do.
Situation 6: Your school wanted to improve break and lunchtime facilities for its students.
Action taken: All pupils got to elect a committee which found out what students wanted. They then organised the carrying out of the work by students and workers.
Situation 7: Your school needed some students to take important visitors around the building and asked some First Year students to help them.
Action taken: The principal explained that they wanted the visitors to see the school and explained to the students what to show the visitors and why.
Situation 8: Parents from a growing suburb organised a demonstration in front of Leinster House asking for a new primary school to be opened in their area.
Action taken: The parents took their young children and gave them posters and placards to carry which had slogans like ‘I want to go to school’.
