Exercise 87A Identifying what makes information reliable in videos, news articles and memes
Key Skills Success criteria
I can explain how diff erent media can give information in diff erent ways.
I can give examples of features that make a report reliable.
I can show how somebody’s opinion can be diff erent from facts. I can explain why people have diff erent viewpoints.
People can have diff erent views on topics depending on how they aff ect them. For example, look at the cube below. It is known as the Necker cube. Can you decide whether corner 1 or corner 2 is closer to you?
The answer depends on your perspecti ve, which means the way you see things. Your perspective might be diff erent from somebody else’s because your experience is diff erent to theirs. For example, if you had no home a small fl at might seem wonderful, but if you lived in a mansion, the small fl at might seem a terrible place to live.
2 1
Some people will see corner 1 of the Necker cube as closer, others will see corner 2 (some can see both as being closer, depending on how they look at it). All are correct, so it is important to consider that there may be more than one answer when making other decisions. It is rare that one side is completely right and the other side completely wrong. People have diff erent reasons for having diff erent viewpoints.
