Focus on the four short forms in the box. Write them on the board. Elicit the full forms and add them to the board:
I’d like = I would like I’ll = I will That’s = that is What’s = what is Play the recording. Pause after each line for
students to repeat.
Ask students to write a new sentence with each short form. After a few minutes, ask different students to read out one or two of their sentences.

Students prepare, practise and perform. Make sure students understand that the situations in the photographs are similar to the ones in the earlier conversations in the sense that the conversations should always be between two (or three) people, in which one of the people suggests an idea or ideas. Students can use phrases from the lesson, plus any they can remember from the conversations.

This website helps nurses to choose personalized activities to develop their career and their own skills. You create a CPD plan based on your interests. For example, some nurses may need to learn more about wound care. Others may want to know more about infection control or new technology. (Prefer is the one word students can’t use.)

Introduction CPD is an important feature of any career in healthcare, particularly nursing. Every time nurses renew their registration, they will be required to show that they are fulfilling CPD programme requirements of their workplace or professional association; that they have undertaken sufficient CPD to maintain their competence; and that they commit to undertake sufficient CPD to maintain competence in the future.
NOTE You may want to bring in large sheets of
coloured paper and possibly other basic art materials for the poster activity in Exercise F. Students will also need to find photographs on the internet and print them. Alternatively, the poster activity can be done on a computer as a webpage or similar.

Refer students back to Reading skill: Dealing with new words on page 86 of the Course Book, and remind them how to deal with unknown or difficult words. The website text will serve as a model for a similar text students will be writing.
