B Answers

Energy use The results of the survey are shown below. There are some good points. The medical centre is lit by energy-saving LED lights and water-saving taps are used in the bathrooms. However, there are some problems. Lights are often left on during the night. Green energy is not used anywhere in the centre – the heaters are powered with regular electricity. In the centre, the central heating system does not work efficiently. Heaters are always on maximum because they are not fitted with thermostats. The building is not insulated so a lot of heat escapes. Also, consumables such as printer cartridges are not recycled. They are thrown away.

C Answers

1. As a result of our survey, we have some recommendations to reduce the carbon footprint of the medical centre.

2. Firstly, the medical centre should introduce green energy everywhere.

3. Secondly, the staff should turn off all the lights during the night.

4. Thirdly, all the heaters in the medical centre need thermostats.

5. Finally, the centre should be properly insulated so the amount of heat loss is reduced.
