Go through all the information in the box and check understanding. Point out that in notes, we don’t usually write the verb be or include articles – a, an or the.


Students might ask why they shouldn’t read full sentences aloud. The answers are:

Content note In this exercise, students rehearse their talks. They need to get into the habit of practising (individually or with a partner) what they are going to say. Students need to monitor their own performance independently and try to improve it.

1. Before dividing the class into groups, revise the information about hard and soft skills that students learnt on page 25. Each group should be no more than four students, so large classes will have three or four Group As, Group Bs and Group Cs. Refer students to the Resources on CB pages 153, 166 and 171. Make sure each group is reading the correct set of notes.


2. In their groups, students decide what the full sentence is for each note. Students should take turns saying each sentence to each other. They should help each other to improve pronunciation and grammar. Monitor to check students pronounce the short forms correctly, and stress the correct words.
