nurse can’t decide which patient to see first. The lab technician can’t experiment and can’t be creative. The solution? I think the solution is empowerment. This is an important word. Empowerment. What is it? Empowerment means that managers give workers control. So, with empowerment, you take control of your own work. Let me give you a few examples. So, in a hospital’s physiotherapy ward, the trainer can show her boss a new exercise programme and then do it with the patients herself. That’s empowerment. The manager in a doctor’s practice makes the receptionists responsible for patient bookings. The manager only helps decide about certain emergency patients. People feel motivated in their job because they have control over the details of it.
Speaking skill: Good and bad habits!
Go through the information in the box. Ask students to discuss in pairs if they think they have any of these good or bad habits.
Tell students self-evaluation is important. They should think about these things for themselves and try to put them right!

Put students in Groups A, B or C. Refer them to the Resources on CB pages 156, 168 and 171. Make sure students can pronounce the words rotation, enlargement, enrichment.
Remind students about marking their sentences for sense groups from Unit 4 page 55.

Still in their groups, check that the listeners understand their task and make sure they complete the form while you are monitoring the speakers. Use a visual medium to show the completed form at the end of the lesson so that students can self-check.
