Identifying plants A quadrat is a square frame used to identify plants in a habitat study. To use a quadrat: 1. Throw a pen randomly over your shoulder.
2. Place the quadrat over the pen. 3. Examine the area enclosed by the quadrat. 4. Identify the plant species found inside the quadrat using an identification key.
