Gases dissolve in water but, unlike solids, as the temperature increases, gases become less soluble in the solvent. Fig. 18.5 shows what happens to the volume of oxygen gas in water as the temperature is increased.
A solubility curve is a graph that shows the amount of a solute that dissolves in a fixed volume of solvent at different temperatures.
