Method 1. Place the leaf (or your hand) on the graph paper and trace its outline. 2. Put an X in every box that is completely within the traced line. 3. Put a Y in every box that is partially but not completely within the traced line. 4. Count the number of X boxes and multiply this by 1 cm2 5. Count the number of Y boxes and multiply this by 0.5 cm2 6. Add the two totals for an estimate of the area in cm2
