* Relative mass is the mass of the moon compared to Earth. It is a ratio where Earth is described as having a relative mass of 1.
1. Name four moons of Jupiter. 2. Which moon has the largest relative mass? 3. List the moons in order of increasing relative radius. 4. Group together the moons that have similar properties. Explain why they are similar.
Asteroids
An asteroid is a small lump of rock that orbits the Sun. Asteroids range in size from less than 1 km to 1000 km in diameter. They are thought to have been left over from the formation of the solar system.
The asteroid belt lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It contains a large number of asteroids that vary in shape and size. Some well-known asteroids include Apophis, Ceres, Chiron, Eros and Vesta.
