• The pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs. • Diffusion allows the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide at the alveoli.
• Capillaries containing oxygenated blood join to form the pulmonary vein at the lungs. The pulmonary vein then carries oxygenated blood back to the left atrium of the heart.
