How does the height from which a ball is dropped affect the depth of the crater formed?

Method 1. Set up the apparatus as shown in Fig. 34.6.
2. Use the metre stick to drop the golf ball into the flour or sand from a height of 20 cm. Remove the golf ball carefully from the flour or sand.
3. Use the ruler to measure the depth of the crater formed. Record your result.
4. Smooth out the flour or sand before taking the next measurement.
5. Repeat twice more and get an average depth.
6. Follow steps 2–5 for the following heights: 40 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm and 100 cm. Record your results.
SAFETY • Make sure the area is clear before you drop the ball from a height to ensure no damage or injury is caused.
