Object pronouns come immediately before the verb, e.g.: Je les aime. I love them. Ça me plait. I like it. Nous leur parlons. We talk to them. J’y vais à pied. I go there by foot. J’en ai besoin. I need it.
In a compound tense (i.e. a tense that uses the auxiliaries avoir or être, for example, the perfect tense), the pronoun goes before avoir or être, e.g.: Je l’ai aidé à choisir sa fac. I helped him to choose his university. Il m’a parlé de ses problèmes. He talked to me about his problems. Il y est allé l’année dernière. He went there last year. J’en ai pris cinq. I took five of them.
When there are two verbs together (a verb + an infinitive), the pronoun comes before the infinitive, e.g.: Je vais en parler. I’m going to talk about it. Je ne peux pas y aller. I can’t go there. Je voudrais le lui donner. I would like to give it to him.
When there are several pronouns in the same sentence, this is the order they follow:
Je Tu
Il / elle / on Nous Vous
Ils / Elles ne
me te se
nous vous se
