Walking in the Baltic States


On this walking tour we visit the three Baltic States: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We discover their cultural heritage and explore some of their many national parks. We walk through forests, along sand dunes, and learn to ‘bog walk’, whilst also learning about the different ecosystems. We also visit the capitals of each country and Lithuania’s beautiful 15th century Trakai Castle.


8 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour in Tallinn. Day 2 Lahemaa National Park Take a short city tour of Tallinn then drive to Lahemaa National Park to walk the Beaver Trail, where if lucky we will see beavers in or around the river. In the afternoon learn how to use bogshoes and take a walk through this unique ecosystem. Days 3/4 Gauja National Park Drive across the border to Latvia and to the capital Riga, where we make a city tour. Continue to the medieval town of Cesis in Gauja National Park

- known as the ‘Latvian Switzerland’. Enjoy a walk through the forest via the ruins of medieval fortresses to 13th century Turaida Castle. Day 5 Kemeri National Park Travel to the seaside and spa resort of Jurmala via Kemeri National Park, before crossing the border to Lithuania. Continue to Curonian Spit National Park. Day 6 Curonian Spit National Park Walk along the unique sand dune spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through pine forests and along dune


paths. Day 7 Trakai Castle and Vilnius Drive to Vilnius via the country’s former capital Trakai, famous for its beautiful 15th century castle set on an island in Lake Galve. Take a lakeside walk before travelling on to Vilnius. Take a city tour of the Lithuanian capital. Day 8 Tour ends Vilnius.
