Austria’s Tyrol is a beautiful mountain region of precipitous peaks, green valleys and quaint villages. We base ourselves in charming Alpbach. Voted as Austria’s prettiest village, it is the picture-perfect image of the Tyrol with well-kept chalets, fl ower-fi lled window boxes and views of the whole valley. We enjoy walks through forest and meadow and ascend the higher ridges by cable car for fantastic views of the snow-capped Alps.


8 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour at Munich airport and drive to Alpbach (975m) in the Austrian Tyrol. Day 2 Muehlbachweg A gentle valley walk through larch forests and farmland along the Muehlbachweg to Inneralpbach Day 3 Alpbachtal and Zillital We take the cable car to 1850m to enjoy an easy ridge walk with fantastic views of snow-capped peaks in the distance. For those feeling more adventurous there’s the chance to climb Standkopf summit (2241m). Day 4 Tiefenbach Gorge We take the local bus to Brandenberg and enjoy a walk in the gorge through the forest along the river to Kramsach. Day 5 Zireiner See Ascend by chairlift through the forest to above the treeline.

Day 2: 4hrs


Follow the trail to the Zireiner See (1799m), a beautiful high altitude lake below craggy limestone cliffs. Day 6 Free day Options include exploring the pretty villages around Alpbach, historic Rattenburg, famous for its glassblowing or striking out further afi eld to Innsbruck or Salzburg. Day 7 Gratlspitz Walk around the craggy cliffs known as Gratlspitz (1898m) which sit above Alpbach. Day 8 Drive to Munich airport where tour ends.

Alpine chalet in village centre


Family-run hotel Muhlbachhof is just minutes from the centre of Alpbach village. All rooms have balconies and are furnished in a traditional mountain style. As is usual in Austria, twin-bedded rooms feature two single mattresses each with their own set of bedding on one large bed base. If this style doesn’t suit you, then single rooms are available for a small supplement. Please see our website for details.
