Day walks amongst the varied landscapes of eastern Sicily


Enjoy a week of walking in a diverse variety of scenic landscapes. Based in a simple family-run hotel in the seaside town of Giardini Naxos, we walk alongside the lava fl ows on iconic Mount Etna, take a ferry to the peaceful Aeolian Island of Vulcano and ramble amongst the rock-cut tombs of the UNESCO-listed Pantalica Gorge. From Monte Venere we admire spectacular coastal views, whilst the lakes and uplands of Mount Nebrodi National Park are a verdant and isolated wilderness.

Day 1 Join tour Catania airport and transfer to our simple family-run hotel by the beach in Giardini Naxos. Day 2 Mount Etna On the slopes of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest volcano, we hike amongst the forests and lava fl ows of 2002. Day 3 Aeolian Islands We take a ferry to the island of Vulcano and hike to the crater rim. Day 4 Monte Venere hike Setting out from the medieval village of Castelmola we walk up to Monte Venere (880m) for amazing views down to the Strait of Messina, the Ionian coast and Greek Theatre in Taormina. Day 5 Pretty Taormina Time to visit nearby Taormina or the mountain towns of Savoca and Forza d’Agro where the fi lm ‘The

Godfather’ was shot. Day 6 Pantalica Gorge Hike alongside the Anapo River in the scenic Pantalica Gorge, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site that is home to over 5000 rock-cut tombs. Visit ancient Syracusa in the afternoon. Day 7 Nebrodi Mountains Walking in the isolated wilderness of the Nebrodi Mountains National Park. Day 8 Transfer to Catania airport where the tour ends.
