A self-guided walking holiday in the magnifi cent Dolomites. You’ll hike through stunning landscapes of dramatic limestone cliffs and snow-capped peaks, picture-perfect alpine pastures and idyllic meadows. This unique German-speaking part of Italy boasts an exceptional cuisine, a rich variety of wildlife including marmots and chamois, and an extraordinary variety of fl owers which bloom in their thousands in spring and summer. Beginning in Platzwiese, you walk across the Fanes-Sennes Nature Reserve to St.Vigilio di Marebbe, overnighting in excellent and beautifully located rifugi (mountain huts) where hearty meals provide you with energy for the breathtaking walks.


8 day itinerary


Day 1 Your journey starts in Platzwiese/ Prato Piazza. Day 2 Strudelkopf Today you can climb the Strudelkopf (2307m) for excellent views of the towering limestoneTre Cime or hike through the rolling Stollaplatz and Stolla-Alm. Day 3 Sennes Today’s walk starts with a descent via the spectacular Val dei Canope to Cimabanche before climbing again to a meadow plateau surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks. The fi nal climb through the lovely Val Salata takes you to Sennes. Day 4 Sennes

Plateau A short hike through the plateaus and valleys above the tree line can be extended (if you like scrambling) with a climb to the Muntejela de Senes peak (2887m). On a clear day, the view from the peak is stunning. Day 5 Lago de Foses Initially following the Alta via Dolomiti at a constant elevation you then descend to the beautifully located Lago de Foses. On the other side of the valley, you climb back up to the Fanes Plateau. Day 6 Rifugio Fanes Today you can choose between two alternative

all-day hikes - to the Ju d’la Crusc (2612m) where you stand at the top of a perpendicular rock wall or to the ‘Bivacco della Pace’ (shelter of peace). Day 7 San Vigilio di Marebbe Descend through the forest from the Fanes Plateau to the lovely Val di Marebbe. Day 8 Your journey ends in San Vigilio di Marebbe.

Accommodation: 2 nights standard hotels, 5 nights simple rifugi. The rifugi we use offer very comfortable accommodation where you will have your own private room, sometimes with a private bathroom but in high season more usually sharing facilities along the hallway. Meals: 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 6 dinners are included. Trekking details: On this journey you walk 83 km over 6 days (an average of almost 14 km a day). On 2 of the days there are longer walking options available. The route follows narrow gravel roads or well-marked hiking trails. Ascents/descents average around 800 m each day. Luggage transfer: Included between each hotel and rifugio. Recommended airport: Innsbruck or Verona.
