Maya trek to Tikal GMT Planned tour dates Hiking Guatemala’s volcanoes and trekking through rainforest to Tikal
We arrive at the magnifi cent Mayan temple complex of Tikal in a truly pioneering way on foot, having trekked for four days through rainforest (organised by a local community co-operative). Listen to the howler monkeys and watch out for toucans in the forest canopy. We experience panoramas from the top of a volcano, explore colonial Antigua on foot and travel by boat between indigenous villages on the shores of Lake Atitlan, hiking high for spectacular views over one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
11 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour in Antigua. Day 2 Colonial Antigua Countryside hikes and city tour on foot. Day 3 Volcano ascent Hike up through forests and grasslands to the crater of the Pacaya Volcano via the Mayan ceremonial site of Iximche. Drive to Lake Atitlan. Day 4 Lake Atitlan Explore the lake ringed by mighty volcanic peaks. Hike Indian Nose for incredible panoramic views, and

Days 6/8 Rainforest Trek Boat across Lake Peten, 4WD to start of four- day trek supported by the Cruce Dos Aguadas Community Co-operative - experience the environment through their eyes. Walk to El Zotz, visit remote Mayan ruins, climb temples for views above the rainforest
