Explore south-west Crete on this self-guided walking holiday, that takes in an impressive coastline, the beautiful White Mountains and the famous Samaria Gorge. Hike at your own pace and enjoy the changing scenery of natural beaches, fi r forests, mountains and gorges. En-route walk into the quiet car-free village of Loutro and enjoy meals at seaside and hillside tavernas as you hike down time-worn trails.


8 day itinerary


Day 1 Your journey starts in Paleochora, a pleasant coastal town in south-west Crete, your base for two nights. Day 2 Coastal Walk Travel to Elafonissi Lagoon (a ferry is available four times a week, mid-May to mid-October). Walk back along the coast past remote, sandy beaches to Kyros Beach where a taxi will take you back to your hotel. Day 3 Sougia Walk to the ancient port of Lissos where there is an opportunity to bathe in therapeutic waters, before continuing via a narrow gorge to

Day 2: 4hrs Paleochora


Sougia. Day 4 Omalos Climb up to the Omalos Plateau via two impressive gorges: Irini Gorge and the steeper Fitou Gorge. Arrive to Agios Theodores chapel where the hotel minibus will pick you up. Enjoy the views to the surrounding White Mountains. Day 5 Samaria Gorge Hike along this spectacular gorge - the longest and most famous in Europe, to the seaside village of Agia Roumeli. Day 6 Loutro Walk past Agios Pavlos, a Byzantine church, and through a fi r forest to the small beach


Sougia Omalos


at Marmara, then on to the car-free village of Loutro where we stay for two nights. Day 7 Aradhena Gorge Make a circular walk via Anopolis and ancient Aradhena to the impressive Aradhena Gorge and back down to the coast. Day 8 Travel to Chora Sfakion by ferry (not included) where your journey ends.
