A self-guided gastronomical walking holiday that takes you along the banks of the meandering Dordogne River and into the higher wooded Perigord plateau. Follow hidden footpaths through the picturesque countryside. Arrive on foot at the honey-coloured village of Montferrand, the Cistercian Abbey of Cadouin and the imposing Biron Castle. End your trip in Monpazier, a jewel of a ‘bastide’ (fortifi ed settlement) included on a well-known list of ‘the most beautiful villages of France’. Along the way, enjoy comfortable accommodation and delicious dining in three attractive, small family-run hotels.
8 day itinerary
Day 1 Your journey starts in Badefols where you stay in a small hotel beside the River Dordogne for two nights. Day 2 Banks of the Dordogne A circular walk towards Cales with panoramic views across the river. You can sip a glass of the local wine i n the hotel ga rden o n r eturn. Days 3/4 Forests and Abbeys Walk through deciduous woods via the

fortifi ed settlement of Molieres and the Forest of Bessadois to the hamlet of La Salvetat and our restored farmstead. Day to either relax or walk to the nearby 12th century Cistercian Abbey in the pretty village of Cadouin. Days 5/6 Chateaux and fi ne food Walk to Monpazier via the honey-coloured village of Montferrand, with luck spotting dear and wild boar en route.

Explore back lanes of Monpazier and walk through an alternating landscape of pasture and dense groves of trees to the imposing medieval castle of Biron. Day 7 Your journey ends in Monpazier.
